April fools jokes that aren't funny
I wrote an Email to my daughter and advised her of the following:
Heard from my attorney yesterday - because XXXXXXXXX (my ex-wife) has been unable to find a job, and because she has medical needs, the court has decided to award her the house. I've been given 30 days to find a new place to live. I just can't believe what the court will do. Help.......
Because the note was sent on April 1st, and because I've sent April fool's Emails in the past, I was sure my daughter would know the Email was a joke. She telephoned a short while later, in tears, because she believed the Email. Knowing the prejudice of the divorce courts against the male, and knowing my ex-wife's choosing to live on alimony and not work, it was just a bit too believable.
Learned a lesson - if an April fool's joke is too close to the truth, it may not be funny and may even bring pain.
